Onlangs is bij Uitgeverij Obelisk een herziene en geactualiseerde uitgave verschenen van het boek
“Van levensboom tot kruis” van Marcel Messing.

Begintijd en eindtijd

Het centrale archetype in het menselijk bewustzijn is de levensboom. In talloze mythen, verhalen en legenden en in alle grote religies treffen we het symbool van de levensboom aan. Talloos zijn ook de mythen over de val van de mens in relatie tot de levensboom. Het meest bekend in de christelijke wereld is het verhaal in Genesis 2 en 3, waarin sprake is van ‘de levensboom’, symbool van goddelijke eenheid, en van ‘de boom van kennis van goed en kwaad’, symbool van dualiteit. Genesis is een inwijdingsverhaal van de hoogste orde en verbergt vele geheimenissen. De levensboom is in ons lichaam, ‘de tuin in Eden’, geplant. Hij bevat twee aspecten ineen: goed en kwaad.

Aan de hand van onder andere canonieke, apocriefe, gnostische, alchemistische en kabbalistische teksten wordt door Marcel Messing het oerdrama van de val en het probleem van goed en kwaad toegelicht. Onwetendheid en begeerte houden tot de dag van vandaag het rad van geboorte, ziekte, lijden, ouderdom en dood in beweging. Dit rad is een matrix waarin de mens gevangen zit. Er is echter een korte, directe weg om voorgoed uit dit alsmaar wentelend rad te ontsnappen en tot volkomen bevrijding en onsterfelijkheid te komen. Aan de wortels van de levensboom bevindt zich de levensbron. Deze bron bevat het geheim van de seksuele energie die de levensboom in ons kan regenereren, in alchemistische en esoterische geschriften verbonden met de ‘steen der wijzen’, ‘de boom der filosofen’ en de ‘graal’. Dan kan het archetype van het kruis in ons oprijzen in relatie tot de weg van bevrijding. Bij Jezus Christus verwijzen het kruis en de kruisiging niet alleen naar de noodzakelijke ‘kruisiging’ van de vijf zintuigen en het sterven aan alles wat we niet zijn (het ego), maar ook naar het geheim van het Lichtkruis, het Woord, waardoor voor de sterfelijke mens ‘de deur’ geopend wordt om te kunnen opgaan in de universele Geest, Bewustzijn, het eeuwige Licht. Begintijd en eindtijd zijn dan opgelost in tijdloosheid.
